WHAT & HOW?

Every person in America who understands that cannabis prohibition does more harm than good is encouraged to do what they can to share the truth about cannabis in any peaceful way possible. It doesn’t matter if you’ve never used cannabis, all you need is the knowledge that these laws are wrong and harmful. We simply speak up with emails and calls every day until our demand is met: Repeal cannabis prohibition for adults. It's as simple as that (More details below), but don't underestimate our numbers AND the power of a united, determined group!

Now is the time to submit to your Leaders any thoughts you've ever had about how we as a free society should handle cannabis, because:

A) SO MUCH is going on right now concerning cannabis laws,
B) People are finally starting to open up about how wrong it is to lock up people for using pot for any reason, and
C) We want to work quickly so we can release our Prisoners of War as soon as possible!

Visualize our freedom - we aren't that far off.
Imagine doctors being able to bring people safe relief without fear of arrest.
Imagine being able to go to the store to buy a nice pack of smokes ("5-pack of Maui Wowie, please") just as we can buy hard liquor today.
Imagine religions which use cannabis as a Sacrament being able to practice a peaceful religion without fear of arrest.
Imagine hemp being grown here in the U.S. instead of being imported.
All this is FAR from impossible, and it's VITAL we STOP THE SUFFERING NOW of the people who have been caught up in the cogs of the system!

As a 555 contributor wrote, "Every day that passes brings more innocent blood to the hands of every single person pressing for continuing this war on our own citizens." It's so true - there is NO GOOD REASON to let 2,000 people a day get plucked from their lives to become slaves of the state, forced to give up family, property and time for the sake of others' beliefs. Please join in.

The General Plan:

1) Place a call to your Representative, your two Senators, and the President. Look in the Blue Pages of your phone book, or go to (Copy and Paste Please) www.congress.org, or call the Capitol Hill switchboard at 202-224-3121 and ask for the office of your Representative/Senators. The operator can give you their names if you don't know them.
You'll be forwarded to a staff member or an answering machine.

Leave a message to let them know that you would support the introduction of a bill that would re-legalize and regulate cannabis so that it would be sold like cigarettes or alcohol. That's it. You can say whatever else you like - Other ideas are on the page, "SAMPLE PHONE & EMAIL SCRIPTS AND LETTERS."

Yes, I was scared the first time, feeling like a nutcase, but it was SO EASY. And those people answering the phones are SO NICE! By the fourth call, I was more confident and I cleaned up my wording so it went splendidly. YOURS WILL, TOO!
THANKS TO ALL WHO MADE A CALL TODAY!!!!! YOU ARE PROGRESSING US TOWARDS FREEDOM!!!!!

They most likely won't, but if they ask why you want it re-legalized (Only one has asked me this yet and we ended up having a very good conversation), you can say that:
A) You believe that it should be a medical issue, not a judicial one;
B) It IS a non-toxic medicine;
C) People are being wrongfully imprisoned for possession of a substance that is safe;
D) The laws are based on prejudice and are used to harrass minorities, even "white minorities" like hippies and skaters (I call it government-funded bullying/robbing/vandalizing)
Or anything you want - visit other pro-pot sites for more ideas.

The person answering the phone will almost always just hear and take note of what you say, and MAYBE they'll ask for your address to verify you're in their district (Please do not worry - I and many others have been peacefully calling and writing in for years and no one has bothered us about it. Thank God we still have THAT FREEDOM!).
They are very professional, if YOU are. It's just a job to them, so even though it IS a big deal that YOU CALL, it's no big deal to them.

2) Mail, email, or hand-deliver the following "Sample Bill" to your elected officials. It was written by Keith Blevins in honor of Jonathan Magbie, who became quadraplegic in a car accident when he was a small boy and used cannabis to enjoy a better life, but he died due to lack of proper medical care in the D.C. jail -- they failed to obtain his ventilator. Unbelievable, isn't it?

To email them, first bring up a new browser page (I like to use "Ctrl + n") and enter congress.org, enter your zip code on that webpage, then get to the contact form for your representative (I use "Cannabis Prohibition" for the Subject line, and "Government affairs" for the Issue Area).
Then, copy and paste the bill to the comment form, editing to your liking. Do the same for your senators.
Send it in at least once. Once a week if you really want to help end this government-funded suffering ASAP.

Please introduce the following bill to repeal cannabis prohibition:

JONATHAN'S LAW*

-The Drug Enforcement Administration is directed to reschedule cannabis, also known as marijuana, into the category, “Generally Recognized As Safe”.

-All Federal restrictions on the possession, use, sale, and cultivation of cannabis are lifted as of the date on which this legislation is signed into law by the President.

-All persons currently serving Federal sentences for possession, use, sale, and/or cultivation of cannabis shall be released from prison immediately upon this legislation becoming law.

-All pending cases regarding the possession, use, sale, and/or cultivation of cannabis shall be dismissed upon this legislation becoming law.

-All current Federal investigations of cannabis-related activities shall be discontinued upon this legislation becoming law.

-All cannabis-related records will be erased.

- No resources of the Federal Government of the United States shall be used to monitor, control, or regulate the possession, use, sale, and/or cultivation of cannabis, either acting independently, or in conjunction with any state or municipality.

-No resources of the Federal Government of the United States shall be used to influence, directly or indirectly, the internal politics of any state or municipality regarding their laws concerning the possession, use, sale, and/or cultivation of cannabis. This includes attempts to influence state legislatures, and also attempts to influence voters who are considering ballot initiatives.

-Considering that cannabis metabolites remain in a person’s body long after its effects, and the ambiguous data regarding the effects of cannabis on driver safety, all state laws regarding drugged driving must be based on physical performance standards, and not merely on the presence of drug metabolites in a person's system.

* Named in honor of Jonathan Magbie, whose life ended on September 24, 2004. Killed by the callous indifference of the legal system of the District of Columbia.

For both phone calls and letters, you may get a letter in response, and it might be negative ("I hear what you say but I'm not changing my mind"), but do not let that sway you! Either research and respond to their arguments peacefully and accurately, or just keep on telling them how safe cannabis is. Just don't give up. We WILL win! Besides, we pay them to DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION, not give us their OPINIONS!!!

No matter how many times you've contacted your Senators and Representative on this issue before, it is critical that you contact them again right now during this sensitive time in history.

3) Those with enough time and courage can go to or near their local Representative's or Senators' offices (Or any public property where there are lots of people) and cheerfully display signs and banners to passing traffic or crowds while handing out information about cannabis prohibition to interested people. It doesn't really matter WHERE you go, ALL THAT MATTERS IS THAT YOU ARE OUT THERE! If only 40 people see your sign, that's 40 more than ZERO, and most people will turn the message over in their minds, and then they might even look into it themselves, and then they might talk about it with others, and the next time a vote is brought to the people, fewer people will be left who believe cannabis is an evil, dangerous drug and all potheads belong in prison.

4) Do at least one activity from the "Actions" page each and every day. Or week, as long as you keep it up - that's the important thing. Keep your mind on the impact our victory will have on the lives of literally millions of victims of these laws, plus their families. Call, write, and spend all the time you can publicly campaigning for change. Just keep on keepin' on until we win.
It's simple but it's not easy: We don't stop until it is announced that, "Cannabis To Be Re-Legalized In U.S."
Doesn't that sound NICE??? Think about THAT headline!

5) PLEASE DON'T BE AFRAID OR HOPELESS. KEEP IN MIND WHAT THIS IS ABOUT: PEOPLE'S LIVES ARE BEING RUINED BY UNNECESSARY PUNISHMENT THAT WE CAN STOP! BIGGER THINGS THAN THIS HAVE BEEN DONE ALL THROUGH HISTORY!! WE CAN DO THIS!!!

No one can say how long this will take, but we already have the support of tens of millions and we're gaining more all the time, so our persistence WILL pay off! Honestly, fear and ignorance are the only things holding us all back. *got courage?*

You can do anything else you want, as long as your actions do not harm anyone or anything in the process. You WILL make an impact!!
If you don't do anything, you'll wish you did so that you can tell your kids, "Yeah, I was a part of getting cannabis re-legalized, and it was AWESOME!"
You KNOW all this is gonna change sooner or later - be a part of it!

PLEASE don't let others do this for you. Freedom will mean much more to you once you've stood up for it yourself, I guarantee you'll like the feeling!

If you honestly can't bring yourself to write, call or come out with a sign, please at least positively support the ones who are in the trenches by praying (And pray for congress too), sending positive thoughts, or just by bringing up the subject of how safe cannabis therapy is to your friends and family.

It will be VERY exciting, don't you think?? NO MORE LOOKING OVER YOUR SHOULDER TO CONSUME SMOKE THAT'S LESS HARMFUL THAN CIGARETTE SMOKE AND LESS "INTOXICATING" THAN ALCOHOL!!

Please go to and support all the pro-pot/freedom events you can, because that will strengthen your courage and other's, too! We're all in this together! Strength in numbers! Fear is weakened every time we stand up to it. We ARE winning but we must keep fighting until we have won our freedom! We must, if only for the sake of real, innocent people caged from their kids - sometimes too far away to visit just so prisons can play with local budgets based on population (Prisoners are counted as residents), all because of a prejudice gone mad.

Without a revolution of some kind, the laws will continue to change slowly as our leaders keep pushing us aside because they are either too stupid, afraid of appearing soft on drugs/"crime", getting paid off, and/or because they can. All the while harmless (And many seriously ill) people continue to be oppressed, raped, robbed, ripped from their families and even killed - over a beneficial, harmless plant. I don't know about you, but I simply can't stand for this any longer.

So gather up your courage and perseverance and get ready to watch some corrupt government workers squirm! Deeeelightful!
